If one of your customers receives “Error #2038″ when uploading a large number of files (or a smaller number of very large files) when using your Customer Upload link, it’s due to local “resource” limitations encountered by the Adobe Flash Uploader My Docs Online uses to allow easy, multiple file uploads.

The solution is to split the upload into two or more batches of files.

The same error can occur when using Upload in the new-style web interface. In that case the same work-around can be used, or use the Desktop App instead.

Occasionally the automatic updates for the MDO Desktop App will remove the icon from your Desktop. Re-installing the app from the website should put the icon back on your desktop. If it doesn’t it’s probably a Java caching issue which can be solved by taking the following steps:

Step 1 – Remove the Desktop App icon from your Desktop

Step 2 – Clear the java cache

To clear the Java Plug-in cache:

Click Start > Control Panel.

Double-click the Java icon in the control panel.
The Java Control Panel appears.

When you have the cache cleared and the Desktop Icon deleted run the application again from this link. That should put a new icon on your desktop and launch the program.

First be absolutely certain that you have Java installed on your machine. In most instances the problem is caused by Java not being installed. You can install java from http://java.com. See this FAQ entry for more information on installing Java.

If you’re certain you have Java installed then the problem is most likely the file association. The Desktop App uses Java Web Start to launch from links on the My Docs Online websites or from the desktop shortcut, using a “.jnlp” file. Some Windows 7 systems have the file association for .jnlp wrong, specifying that Windows should use Internet Explorer or another program when opening .jnlp files.

To correct this:

Click the start button, then Default Programs

Select Associate a file type or protocol with a program

Find “.jnlp” and Change the associated program

If Java(TM) Web Start Launcher is not listed then browse to the Java directory containing javaws.exe and select it. If you have more than one copy select the most recent copy.

Confirm with “Always use this program”

Try the link again.

Yes you can share files using the Desktop App.

After logging into the Desktop App look for the big “Share” button on the right side of the menu bar which will allow you to select files for sharing via what used to be called our “give” feature. Just select the files, click share and you’ll be presented with two different options.

The first option is to send the file (or files) yourself by generating a link that you can email directly to your recipient. The second option is to have us send the files for you. This second option most closely resembles the website “give” that you may be used to.

If you select the first option – you’ll be sent to a new window that contains the link that you can email directly to the recipient of your files. This allows you to customize the message and the email will come directly from you, making it more likely to be received and opened.

If you select the second option we’ll send the email for you but the link your recipient receives will be exactly the same.

It is also possible to share files stored in your Public Folder using the Desktop App. Any file stored in your Public folder can be right clicked and you’ll see a menu item called “Show Public URL”. Selecting that option will get you a link to that specific file that can be posted in an email message, or a website, or one of your social media sites. That public folder link will continue to work until you remove or rename the file the link points to.

Tap to navigate My Docs Online folders. Tap to open supported file types, which include by default Microsoft Office documents, Adobe PDF, most graphic file types, and any file types supported by other installed products.

Because of the way iOS controls access to files belonging to one app from another app, you can’t use OverTheAir to upload files from other applications, including iWork apps. You can, however, use the WebDAV support built in to iWork to upload files from apps such as Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

You can access your My Docs Online account on Android devices (phones and tablets), for opening and viewing files in locally-installed apps such as Documents To Go or various PDF viewers, by using a WebDAV app.

WebDAV apps known to work include WebDAV Navigator and WebDAV File Manager.

Configuration steps for Add Server:

Name: My Docs Online

Server URL: https://webfolders.mydocsonline.com

User ID and Password: Your My Docs Online Login ID and password

Once logged in simply navigate to a folder and tap a file to download and open (you have to have an app that can handle the files types you use).
