Yes you can share files using the Desktop App.

After logging into the Desktop App look for the big “Share” button on the right side of the menu bar which will allow you to select files for sharing via what used to be called our “give” feature. Just select the files, click share and you’ll be presented with two different options.

The first option is to send the file (or files) yourself by generating a link that you can email directly to your recipient. The second option is to have us send the files for you. This second option most closely resembles the website “give” that you may be used to.

If you select the first option – you’ll be sent to a new window that contains the link that you can email directly to the recipient of your files. This allows you to customize the message and the email will come directly from you, making it more likely to be received and opened.

If you select the second option we’ll send the email for you but the link your recipient receives will be exactly the same.

It is also possible to share files stored in your Public Folder using the Desktop App. Any file stored in your Public folder can be right clicked and you’ll see a menu item called “Show Public URL”. Selecting that option will get you a link to that specific file that can be posted in an email message, or a website, or one of your social media sites. That public folder link will continue to work until you remove or rename the file the link points to.

There are different options to deliver files to people who do not have login IDs to your account.

The simplest is to use the “Share” feature in the web browser interface or the Desktop App.

You select one or more uploaded files, click “Share” and enter the recipient’s email address. From there you’re given two options. One is to have a link generated, that you can email yourself. The second is to have us send the link for you in an email that comes directly from us. Many users have reported greater success in avoiding spam filters when sending the link themselves from their own email account.

Once you share a file using “Share” you can check on the status of the download by selecting “Details” in the action bar to the right of the file name.

You may also use the Public Folder, which acts much like a simple web server for files you put in the folder. More detail on Public Folder

However, if your users will be routinely downloading files – and especially if they also need to upload files to you, you will want to create an ID within your EE or TE account, and set up a folder or folders that they have permission to view. That allows them to use the full range of My Docs Online tools to upload and download.

There are two ways of using the Share function with My Docs Online. If you want to share multiple files just click the check box on the far right of the file list for each of the files you want to share. Then click the share button.

If you just want to share a single file you can use the action bar to the right of the file name – just select “share”.

Once you’ve selected your files you’ll have two options for sharing your files. The first is to send file(s) via My Docs Online. If you chose that option we’ll email a link to your recepient that can be used to download the files.

The second option is to email the link yourself. If you want to do that just chose the section option to “Send file(s) myself by creating a link I can email”. Then copy the link and paste it into your email message.

Using either method will allow you to track the file download through the details section of the file(s).

NOTE: When you Share a file with someone, they get their own “copy”. Deleting your copy WILL NOT delete the copy you have already given. Updating your copy of the file WILL NOT update the copy you have given.
