In October 2015 Microsoft released MS Office 2010 update KB3055034 causing authentication to fail when opening Office files such as Word or Excel from a Web Folder. MS Office may also crash. The update affects all Windows versions running MS Office 2010 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

It’s a Microsoft issue affecting many services and to resolve the problem temporarily while awaiting a fix from Microsoft, rollback (uninstall) the update.

To uninstall the MS Office KB3055034 update:

  • Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features
  • Select View Installed Updates
  • Search for KB3055034
  • Right-click ALL occurrences of  Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB3055034)
  • Select Uninstall
  • Restart Windows

In some cases it is also required to uninstall  MS Office KB3054886 using the same procedure.
