64-Bit Vista versions: Bugs in the 64-bit versions of Vista prevent Web Folders from working. Microsoft may address the problem in the future. The 64-bit version of Windows 7 DOES support Web Folders.
32-Bit Vista versions: install this Software Update for Web Folders at Microsoft.com before proceeding.

Web Folder setup steps for Windows Vista and Server 2003
In “Computer” Right-Click an open area on the right side of the Window, then select “Add a Network Location”.
The “Add Network Location Wizard” will appear. Click “Next”.
When asked, “Where do you want to create this network location?” select Choose a custom network location. Click “Next”.
When asked to “Specify the location of your website” in the Internet or network address field, enter https://webfolders2.mydocsonline.com/webfolder, then Click “Next”.
Enter your User Name and Password when prompted (you may be prompted up to FOUR times. Just enter your ID and password each time and the fourth time it should work).
When asked, “What do you want to name this location?” enter a label of your choosing (for instance “My Docs Online”). Click “Next”.
When you see “Completing the Add Network Location Wizard” Check the box “Open the network location when I click Finish” and Click “Finish” (it may take some time for the Web Folder to open the first time).
A Network Location has been created in the “Network Location” section of Computer with the label you choose. (Hint: You can Right-click the Network Location and select “Send to… Desktop” to create an additional shortcut on your desktop).

Do you have Web Folders setup for Windows 7? Thanks, Travis.
We’re still doing our Windows 7 testing. As soon as it is complete we’ll post instructions. In testing the actual setup process seems to be much like Vista. Have you tried a Vista style setup yet?
how to setup multiple webfolders for separate accounts on laptop running vista? Have one account setup but when trying to add second webfolder to desktop for a different account with a different logon, it defaults the logon to the other currently installed folder, even if i type the correct user name and password the four times……i did it successfully on my xp laptop and have both folders there
I have tried it on vista..doesnt work..now m on windows 7..doesnt work either..!!
Is your machine a 64 bit machine? If so Webfolders will not work on 64 bit Vista.
Great tutorial. It worked perfectly on Vista. I’ll try Windows 7 later today.
It worked great! I have Vista and had no problems!!
Great! Thanks for leaving the comment to let us know.
Tried this in windows server 2003, and get an error “the folder you entered does not appear to be valid”.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
I’d double check that the URL you’re using includes the “s” at the end if you’re using SSL encryption for your account. If that doesn’t work and you’re trying to connect to a My Docs Online account try both https://www2.mydocsonline.com and http://www.mydocsonline.com. (Note the difference of the “2″ int he first option.
I tried it on Vista for connecting to my small office website. I get the failed icon all the time. Please help.
Further to my previous comment, I am able to see the files in the folder. I can rename the files. However I am unable to edit them, if I do so the original file on the server is lost and is overwritten by a 0 KB empty file.
Rahul – The failed icon tends to mean that your computer is seeing the folder as a local folder. When it is first set up it will actually copy the file to your server but in future interactions it looks for the folder locally. Is your machine a 64 bit machine? If it is Webfolders just will not work. If it’s not there should be a way to get it to work. We’ve been able to get webfolders connections to our servers working about 98% of the time if the OS is a 32 bit OS.
I can’t get the web folder to work at all. I have followed all the directions to a T and I have the 32 bit operating system of Vista, and I keep getting “The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another.” I don’t know what to do and I’m about ready to set fire to the computer. Please help. P.S. is vista just broken and a useless operating system? Oh and I’m using Microsoft Office Live Small Business also. . .
Hi Adam,
I feel your pain. With our My Docs Online webfolders servers we’re able to get about 95% of Vista users connected but we’ve got some tricks that may or may not help you.
The first thing I’d do is to double check that if your office live connection is a secure connection that you’re using https:// in the address. The next thing would be to try appending a /anyword to the end of your webfolders address. That’s a trick that will sometimes allow you to connect. “anyword” is basically any word that you want to add. It’s a trick that sometimes works for us. So – as an example https://accountname.officelive.com/word
Good luck and if anyone else has any suggestions for Vista and Office live please add them here.
Adam: From your mention of Live Office I am guessing you are not trying to connect to a My Docs Online account. That makes helping you difficult as we can’t know if the problem is at the Live Office end. The 32-bit flavor of Vista can connect via WebDAV with the My Docs Online servers, if you have applied the maintenance on this Microsoft page:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=17c36612-632e-4c04-9382-987622ed1d64&DisplayLang=en
If you have done that and it still won’t work, and if you are in fact connecting to Live Office then you need to contact Microsoft support.
If it’s a My Docs Online account then use one of these contact options:
